Weymouth Bay with its Georgian buildings has many facilities & family attractions with a safe sandy beach. offering donkey rides & Punch & judy in the summer. There's a picturesque old harbour with a further inner harbour, swannery & marina where boats can be hired. This leads to a RSPB sanctuary on the estuary of the river Wey. There are other RSPB sanctuaries at the Lodmoor Country Park & the Observatory on Portland.
Weymouth & Portland are top class sailing & wind surfing venues and are hosting the Olympic Sailing events in summer 2012. The National Sailing Centre is less than 1 mile away (walking) in Portland Harbour. There are also opportunities to sail, windsurf, canoe, kitesurf & dive in Portland Harbour. The Chesil Beach & The Fleet Nature reserve are within walking distance. The area offers excellent sea fishing both from beach, pier or boat. Sea fishing charter boats can be hired.
Weymouths main shopping streets run parallel to the main beach & offer level walking surfaces. Disabled scooters can be hired. Here together with the old town surrounding the harbour & the esplanade you will find a range of shops. restaurants, cafes & bars.
Portland also offers a good range of cafe's, restaurants & bars. The only private swannery in England can be visited at Abbotsbury village, a 20 minute drive away. Marine life can be viewed at the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth. Monkey World & the Bovington Tank Museum are about 10 miles away.
Came Down Golf Club (the birth place of the Ryder Cup) is 6 miles away. The Wessex Golf Centre with a driving range is about 3 miles away. A dry ski slope and a wave pool is available at the Warmwell Holiday Park about 8 miles away. Horse riding is available in the area.
The property is a 5 minute walk away from a small local beach, the Sandsfoot Castle leisure garden and The Old Castle PH which offers good quality Thai Cuisine. A general store, a chemist, the Rodwell Trail access (for pedestrians & cyclists) to either Weymouth or the Fleet/ Chesil Beach / National Sailing Centre. Bus stops to Weymouth, Portland & Dorchester are also 5 minutes away.
